The pilot starred (amongst many others) Robin Ince, Moira Govan and Neil Edmond. This sketch features Robin Ince and Marian Pashley.

Modern Dilemmas

A film about etiquette for the aspiring murderer, written and narrated by Al Murray, based on his pre-Pub Landlord character “Al Murray – Serial Killer”. The film stars Pat Reid and Alan Doyle, was edited by Alistair Kerr with specially-composed music by Paddy (James) McIvor.

The Big Heads

A man with a very large head searches for his ideal woman. A charming comedy love story set in London.

The film stars comedians Karola Gajda (who also built the masks) and Joe Finn, with music by Paddy McIvor and editing by Alistair Kerr.

Fisted: The Hunt For Richard Herring

(1996, 9’30”, Super 8)
An ex-comedian searches for his nemesis Richard Herring against the backdrop of the Edinburgh Fringe 1995.

The music is by Pat Reid’s band Evangelista. The film was shot on Super 8 and was inspired by Chris Marker’s short ‘La Jetee.’

Shaving

A Surrealist satire on office life which I made in 1996 with designer Jonathan Mercer.

It stars Pat Reid as the bowler-hatted man, whose character was inspired by the paintings of Rene Magritte.

I later heavily re-edited and reworked it as my 2003 film ‘The Commuter’.

Being Brave

A stop-motion Odyssey which jumps between the urgency of London and the calm of rural North Yorkshire.

It was filmed between 1993 and 1996. In 2004 I edited the films together to accompany the song by The Wife.

Night Vision

(1994, 2’13”, Beta SP)

An unseen visitor glimpses a deserted city in which the inhabitants are only visible as the trails their car headlights leave behind. It examines the abstract quality of citiscapes after dark.

It was an early – and not entirely successful – experiment in 3D modelling using C programming and produced through the Centre for Electronic Art (today the Landsowne Centre) at Middlesex University. It was laid out onto analogue tape a frame at a time.
